An inverter box, also called an inverter cabinet or enclosure, houses the UPS module, batteries, and transfer switch that convert stored DC battery power into AC power during outages. In traffic and ITS applications, these boxes are typically Type 3R rated aluminum enclosures designed to protect components from moisture, dust, and temperature extremes.

For traffic and ITS inverter cabinets, traffic-grade aluminum is the preferred material due to its corrosion resistance, lightweight strength, and durability outdoors. Aluminum enclosures also support pole and pad mounting options and withstand extreme temperature swings better than plastic or standard steel alternatives.
